The track was written and produced by Madonna, with additional writing provided by Diplo, MoZella, Toby Gad, Ariel Rechtshaid, and MNEK. A demo of "Hold Tight" was leaked onto the internet on December 22, 2014, while its final version was released by Madonna on February 9, 2015 on iTunes Store. The song was later sent to Italian radio on July 24, 2015, as the third single from Rebel Heart in that country.
