Kinks

The Kinks were an English rock band formed in Muswell Hill, North London, in 1963 by brothers Dave and Ray Davies. They are regarded as one of the most important and influential rock groups of the era. The band emerged in 1964 during the height of British rhythm and blues and Merseybeat, and were briefly part of the British Invasion of the US until their touring ban in 1965. Their third single, the Ray Davies penned "You Really Got Me", became an international hit, topping the charts in the United Kingdom and reaching the Top 10 in the United States. Between the mid-1960s and early 1970s, the group released a string of hit singles; studio albums drew good reviews but sold less than compilations of their singles. They gained a reputation for reflecting English culture and lifestyle, fuelled by Ray Davies' observational writing style. Albums such as Face to Face, Something Else, The Kinks Are the Village Green Preservation Society, Arthur, Lola Versus Powerman and the Moneygoround and Muswell Hillbillies, along with their accompanying singles, are considered among the most influential recordings of the period.

The Kinks (engl.  ‚schrullig‘, ‚ausgeflippt‘; also ‚Die Schrulligen‘ oder ‚Die Ausgeflippten‘, außerdem Paronym von The Kings; also ‚Die Könige‘) sind eine englische Musikgruppe. Sie gelten neben den Beatles, The Who und den Rolling Stones als eine der erfolgreichsten britischen Bands der 1960er Jahre (British Invasion). Heute zählen die Kinks zu den Urvätern von Punk und Britpop. Zahlreiche Gruppen wurden und werden durch ihre Musik inspiriert, so zum Beispiel The Jam und The Pretenders.

The Kinks fue una banda británica de rock originaria de Muswell Hill, al norte de Londres, formada por los hermanos Ray y Dave Davies en 1963. Catalogada en Estados Unidos como una banda de la invasión británica, The Kinks está reconocido como uno de los grupos de rock más importantes e influyentes de todos los tiempos. Su música tiene influencias de una amplia gama de géneros, entre los que se cuentan el R&B, el music hall británico, la música folclórica y el country. Ray Davies (cantante principal, guitarra rítmica) y Dave Davies (guitarra principal, voz) permanecieron en él durante los 32 años de trayectoria del grupo. Los miembros originales Peter Quaife (bajo, voz) y Mick Avory (batería, percusión) se vieron reemplazados por John Dalton en 1969 y Bob Henrit en 1984, respectivamente. Dalton a su vez fue relevado por Jim Rodford en 1978, mientras que el teclista Nicky Hopkins acompañó a la banda durante las sesiones de grabación a mediados de la década de 1960.
