Kitel

A kittel, also spelled kitl, (, robe, coat, cf. German Kittel ‘[house/work] coat’) is a white linen robe which serves as a burial shroud for male Jews. It is also worn on special occasions by Ashkenazi Jews. In western Europe this garment is called a Sargenes. The word Sargenes is related to the Old French Serge as well as Latin Serica. The term has mainly fallen out of use in modern times, except in certain neighborhoods such as Washington Heights in New York City.

Kittel beschreibt ein mantelartiges Kleidungsstück aus leichtem Stoff, das zum Schutz oder aus hygienischen Gründen hauptsächlich bei der Arbeit getragen wird oder eine weite, hemdartige Bluse, die über Rock oder Hose getragen wird. Im Süddeutschen entspricht es einem Jackett sowie im Bairischen und Österreichischen veraltet auch einem Damenrock.

O kitel ou kittel, também escrito kitl, (em iídiche:. קיטל, roupão, avental, cf. alemão Kittel 'casaco de (casa / trabalho)') é uma túnica branca que serve de mortalha para os judeus do sexo masculino. Também é usado em ocasiões especiais pelos judeus Asquenazes. Na Europa Ocidental, esta peça de vestuário é chamado de Sargenes. A palavra Sargenes está relacionada com o Serge do francês antigo, bem como o Serica latino. O termo tem principalmente caído em desuso nos tempos modernos, exceto em certos bairros, como Washington Heights, em Nova York.
