Leinster

Leinster ( — — ) is one of the Provinces of Ireland situated in the east of Ireland. It comprises the ancient Kingdoms of Mide, Osraige and Leinster. Following the 12th-century Norman invasion of Ireland, the historic fifths of Leinster and Mide gradually merged, mainly due to the impact of the Pale, which straddled both, thereby forming the present-day province of Leinster. The ancient kingdoms were shired into a number of counties for administrative and judicial purposes. In later centuries, local government legislation has seen further sub-division of the historic counties.

Leinster [] (irisch Cúige Laighean, /ˌkuːg´ə ˈlai^ən/, "Fünftel (des Stammes) der Laigin") ist eine der vier historischen Provinzen Irlands und befindet sich im östlichen und südöstlichen Teil der Republik Irland. Im Nordosten grenzt Leinster an die nordirischen Grafschaften Armagh und Down, im Osten an die Irische See, im Süden und Südwesten an Munster und im Westen und Nordwesten an Connacht. Leinster, eines der fünf alten Provinzialkönigreiche Irlands, schließt die ehemaligen Königreiche Meath und Leinster ein und umfasst zwölf der 26 Grafschaften der Republik Irland auf einer Fläche von 19.775 km².

Leinster posee la mayor población de las cuatro provincias de Irlanda. Su bandera tradicional muestra un arpa dorada sobre un fondo verde.

Le Leinster (en irlandais Laighean, en latin Lagenia) est une des quatre provinces traditionnelles de l'Irlande. Recouvrant la partie orientale de l'île, son territoire a pour pôle urbain la métropole irlandaise, Dublin.
