It was released by Republic Records on September 30, 2014 as the fourth single from Grande's second studio album, My Everything (2014). The Weeknd co-wrote the song along with Max Martin, Savan Kotecha, Ahmad Balshe, Peter Svensson, and Ali Payami; the latter two also co-produced it with Carolina Liar drummer Peter Carlsson.
