Metamorphism

Metamorphism is the change of minerals or geologic texture (distinct arrangement of minerals) in pre-existing rocks (protoliths), without the protolith melting into liquid magma (a solid-state change). The change occurs primarily due to heat, pressure, and the introduction of chemically active fluids. The chemical components and crystal structures of the minerals making up the rock may change even though the rock remains a solid. Changes at or just beneath Earth's surface due to weathering and/or diagenesis are not classified as metamorphism. Metamorphism typically occurs between diagenesis 200°C, and melting 850°C.

Die Gesteinsmetamorphose (gr.  metamórphosis „Verwandlung“, „Umgestaltung“) ist die Umwandlung der mineralogischen Zusammensetzung eines Gesteins durch geänderte Temperatur- und/oder Druckbedingungen. Dabei entsteht aus dem Ausgangsgestein, das auch als Protolith oder Edukt bezeichnet wird, ein metamorphes Gestein (Metamorphit).

Metamorfose is een term die in de geologie, petrologie en mineralogie gebruikt wordt om chemische reacties en faseovergangen in gesteenten te beschrijven.

Le métamorphisme désigne l'ensemble des transformations subies par une roche (sédimentaire, magmatique ou métamorphique) sous l'effet de modifications des conditions de température, de pression, de la nature des fluides et, parfois, de la composition chimique de la roche. Ces transformations, qui peuvent être minéralogiques, texturales, chimiques ou encore structurales, amènent à une réorganisation des éléments dans la roche et à une recristallisation des minéraux à l'état solide.

Metamorfizm – jest to zespół procesów prowadzących do zmiany skał, tekstury, struktury, składu mineralnego oraz chemicznego. Typowym środowiskiem metamorfizmu jest wnętrze skorupy ziemskiej, może on wystąpić również na powierzchni Ziemi. Należy mieć jednak na uwadze, że metamorfizmem nazywamy tylko przemiany zachodzące w stanie stałym.
