NATO

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO ; ; ), also called the North Atlantic Alliance, is an intergovernmental military alliance based on the North Atlantic Treaty which was signed on 4 April 1949. The organization constitutes a system of collective defence whereby its member states agree to mutual defense in response to an attack by any external party. NATO's headquarters are located in Haren, Brussels, Belgium, where the Supreme Allied Commander also resides. Belgium is one of the 28 member states across North America and Europe, the newest of which, Albania and Croatia, joined in April 2009. An additional 22 countries participate in NATO's Partnership for Peace program, with 15 other countries involved in institutionalized dialogue programmes. The combined military spending of all NATO members constitutes over 70 percent of the global total. Members' defense spending is supposed to amount to 2 percent of GDP.

The domain .nato was a top-level domain (TLD) in the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet. The domain was added in the late 1980s by the Network Information Center for the use of NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, based on the rationale that none of the then existing top-level domains adequately reflected its status as an international organization. Soon after this addition, however, Paul Mockapetris, the designer of the DNS, suggested to NATO representatives that nato.int would be a better choice. The TLD .int was created for the use of international organizations, and NATO switch to using nato.int. Without use, the TLD nato was deleted in July 1996.

Die NATO ( „Organisation des Nordatlantikvertrags“ bzw. Nordatlantikpakt-Organisation; im Deutschen häufig als Atlantisches Bündnis, oder auch als Nordatlantikpakt bezeichnet) oder OTAN ist eine Internationale Organisation, die den Nordatlantikvertrag, ein militärisches Bündnis von 28 europäischen und nordamerikanischen Staaten, umsetzt. Das NATO-Hauptquartier beherbergt mit dem Nordatlantikrat das Hauptorgan der NATO; diese Institution hat seit 1967 ihren Sitz in Brüssel. Nach der Unterzeichnung des Nordatlantikpakts am 4. April 1949 – zunächst auf 20 Jahre – war das Hauptquartier zunächst von 1949 bis April 1952 in Washington, D.C., anschließend war der Sitz vom 16. April 1952 bis 1967 in Paris eingerichtet worden.

Die naTo ist eine Kultureinrichtung in der Leipziger Südvorstadt, die vom Verein Kultur- und Kommunikationszentrum naTo e.V. betrieben wird. Zum kulturellen Angebot zählen Konzerte, Programmkino, Literaturlesungen, Theatervorstellungen und Veranstaltungen zu politischen Themen. Darüber hinaus veranstaltet die naTo regelmäßig im Sommer Großveranstaltungen: den naTo-Cup, das Seifenkistenrennen (Prix de Tacot) auf dem Fockeberg und die Badewannenregatta (Régates de Baquet) vor dem Völkerschlachtdenkmal.

.nato war eine generische Top-Level-Domain (gTLD), die für die Verwendung durch die NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) vorgesehen war. Sie existierte nur in den Jahren 1988 bis 1996.

.nato era un dominio de nivel superior de Internet. El TLD nato fue adicionado a finales de los 1980s por el Centro de Información sobre la Red (conocido en inglés como NIC, Network Information Centre) para el uso de la OTAN (NATO en otros países), que consideró que ninguno de los TLDs existentes por entonces reflejaba adecuadamente su situación de organización internacional. Poco después de esta adición, sin embargo, el Centro de información sobre la Red creó el TLD .int para el uso de organizaciones internacionales, y convenció a la OTAN a usar nato.int en su lugar. Sin embargo, el TLD NATO, aunque ya no es utilizado, no fue eliminado hasta julio de 1996.

De Noord-Atlantische Verdragsorganisatie (NAVO) (Engels: NATO, North Atlantic Treaty Organisation; Frans: OTAN, Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique Nord) is een na de Tweede Wereldoorlog opgerichte organisatie ter ondersteuning van het Noord-Atlantische Verdrag dat in Washington op 4 april 1949 werd getekend. L'Organisation du traité de l'Atlantique nord (OTAN ou Otan ; en anglais : North Atlantic Treaty Organization, NATO ; aussi nommé « l'Alliance », pour « Alliance atlantique ») est une organisation politico-militaire qui rassemble de nombreux pays occidentaux, dont le but premier est d'assurer leur défense commune contre les menaces extérieures ainsi que la stabilité des continents ou sous-continents européen et nord-américain. Son siège, initialement situé à Londres puis à Paris, se trouve depuis 1966 à Bruxelles, et son commandement militaire (SHAPE), initialement à Rocquencourt (France), se trouve aujourd'hui à Mons (Belgique).
