Nephron

The nephron (from Greek νεφρός - nephros, meaning "kidney") is the basic structural and functional unit of the kidney. Its chief function is to regulate the concentration of water and soluble substances like sodium salts by filtering the blood, reabsorbing what is needed and excreting the rest as urine. A nephron eliminates wastes from the body, regulates blood volume and blood pressure, controls levels of electrolytes and metabolites, and regulates blood pH. Its functions are vital to life and are regulated by the endocrine system by hormones such as antidiuretic hormone, aldosterone, and parathyroid hormone. In humans, a normal kidney contains 800,000 to 1.5 million nephrons.

Ein Nephron (von griech. νεφρός Niere) ist die funktionelle Untereinheit der Niere. Es besteht aus:

• dem Nierenkörperchen (Malpighi-Körperchen, benannt nach Marcello Malpighi) und
• dem daran angeschlossenen Nierenkanälchen (Tubulus).

Een nefron is de basiseenheid (zowel functioneel als structureel) van de nier.

Le néphron est l'unité structurale et fonctionnelle du rein. Il permet la formation d'urine. Un rein humain adulte en compte entre et 1,6 million.

Nefron – podstawowa jednostka funkcjonalno-strukturalna nerki. Składa się z dwóch zasadniczych części: ciałko nerkowe (kłębuszek nerkowy + torebka) oraz kanalika nerkowego. Nerka człowieka składa się z około 1 miliona nefronów ich liczba jest cechą osobniczą – wahać się może od 1 do 4 mln.
