Nova

Emily Rose Kafoury (born November 20, 1995) known as Nova (often stylized as NOVA), is a Canadian singer and songwriter from Montreal, Quebec.

A nova (plural or novas) is a cataclysmic nuclear explosion on a white dwarf, which causes a sudden brightening of the star. Novae are not to be confused with other brightening phenomena such as supernovae or luminous red novae. Novae are thought to occur on the surface of a white dwarf in a binary system when they are sufficiently near to one another, allowing material (mostly hydrogen) to be pulled from the companion star's surface onto the white dwarf. The nova is the result of the rapid fusion of the accreted hydrogen on the surface of the star, commencing a runaway fusion reaction.

Nova+ is a Bulgarian reality TV channel. The channel launched with the start of the first season of Big Brother (Bulgaria) in 2004, which was also the very first reality show in Bulgaria. During Big Brother 1 the name of the channel was simply Big Brother Live, but its name was changed into Nova+ after the start of the first season of Star Academy Bulgaria on 11 April 2005. The channel aired only during the Big Brother seasons from season 1 to 4.

Nõva ist eine Landgemeinde im estnischen Kreis Lääne mit einer Fläche von 129,6 km². Sie hat 424 Einwohner (Stand: 2010). Sie liegt 48 km von Haapsalu entfernt.

Una nova es una explosión termonuclear causada por la acumulación de hidrógeno en la superficie de una enana blanca. En un sistema binario cerrado, formado por una enana blanca y una estrella evolucionada (es decir, que ya ha dejado la secuencia principal), se produce transferencia (acreción) de masa de la compañera a la enana, debido a la transformación de aquella en gigante roja, lo que pasa es que su expansión y el consecuente llenado de su lóbulo de Roche. Esta superficie equipotencial limita las zonas de influencia de cada estrella; cuando material de la gigante la supera. El material acretado, compuesto principalmente por hidrógeno y helio, es compactado en la superficie de la enana blanca debido a la intensa fuerza gravitatoria en la superficie de ésta. A medida que más material se va acumulando, se calienta cada vez más, hasta que alcanza la temperatura crítica para la ignición de la fusión nuclear. Entonces se transforman rápidamente grandes cantidades de hidrógeno y helio en elementos más pesados, en un proceso análogo al que ocurre en el núcleo de las estrellas de secuencia principal, aunque en estos casos se trata de procesos estables, que duran largos periodos de tiempo; en las novas, en cambio, es un evento violento.

Nõva (Estisch: Nõva vald) is een plaats en gemeente in de Estische provincie Läänemaa. De gemeente telt 451 inwoners (2011) en heeft een oppervlakte van 129,6 km².

Een nova (Latijn voor nieuw, meervoud novae, nova is afkorting voor stella nova = nieuwe ster) is een ster die plotseling veel helderder wordt en daarna geleidelijk, over een periode van maanden tot vele jaren, tot zijn vroegere helderheid terugkeert. De helderheid van novae kan met tien grootteklassen toenemen, dat wil zeggen dat de lichtsterkte 10.000 maal zo groot wordt. Geschat wordt dat er per jaar in ons hele melkwegstelsel ongeveer 70 novae verschijnen. Naast deze eenmalige "klassieke novae" zijn er ook nova-sterren die minder fel, maar wel vaker oplichten.

En astronomie, une nova est une étoile qui devient très brutalement extrêmement brillante, avec une grande augmentation de son éclat, qui peut être de l'ordre de 10 magnitudes. Cette vive luminosité ne dure que quelques jours, et l'étoile reprend ensuite progressivement son éclat initial.
