The
Novye Aldi massacre was a notorious crime in which
Russian federal forces
summarily executed dozens of people in the Novye Aldi (Aldy)
suburb of
Grozny, the capital of
Chechnya, in the course of a "mopping-up" (
zachistka) operation conducted there on February 5, 2000, soon after the end of the
battle for the city. As a result of a deadly rampage by the special police forces at least 60 and up to 82 local
civilians were killed and at least six women were
raped. Numerous houses were also burned and civilian property was stolen in an organized manner.
