Para-Romani is a term used in Romani linguistics to refer non-Romani languages adopted by Romani communities but with considerable admixture from Romani (as with Yiddish or Ladino among Jews). Some Para-Romani languages have no structural features of Romani at all, taking only the vocabulary from Romani. The technical term in linguistics for such a language is a mixed language. Reflecting the linguistic makeup of Europe, most are based on Indo-European languages, except for Laiuse Romani, which is based on Estonian, and Erromintxela, which is based on Basque.
