Phillip Harvey Spector (born
Harvey Phillip Spector, December 26, 1939) is an American
record producer, musician, and songwriter who developed the
Wall of Sound, a
popular music production formula he described as "a
Wagnerian approach to
rock and roll." From 1960 to 1965, Spector produced more than twenty-five
Top 40 singles for various artists, but following sporadic work in the 1970s, he remained largely inactive. In the 2000s, Spector became the subject of two trials for murder and a
second-degree conviction. He is serving a prison sentence of 19 years to life and will be 88 years old before becoming eligible for
parole.
