Platonism

Platonism, rendered as a proper noun, is the philosophy of Plato or the name of other philosophical systems considered closely derived from it. In narrower usage, platonism, rendered as a common noun (with a lower case 'p', subject to sentence case), refers to the philosophy that affirms the existence of abstract objects, which are asserted to "exist" in a "third realm" distinct both from the sensible external world and from the internal world of consciousness, and is the opposite of nominalism (with a lower case "n"). Lower case "platonists" need not accept any of the doctrines of Plato.

Platonismus und Platoniker (Anhänger des Platonismus) sind Begriffe, die in verschiedenen Bedeutungen verwendet werden. Im engeren, stärker geschichtlich geprägten Sinn versteht man unter Platonismus die Lehre des antiken griechischen Philosophen Platon und unter Platonikern die antiken Philosophen, die sich zu dieser Lehre bekannten. Im erweiterten Sinn bezeichnet man als Platoniker auch mittelalterliche und neuzeitliche Philosophen, die nur einzelne wesentliche Elemente von Platons Lehre übernommen haben bzw. einzelne Überzeugungen mit Platon teilen. Im weitesten, rein systematischen Sinn wird der Begriff Platonismus heute für alle philosophischen Lehren verwendet, die ein bestimmtes Kernmerkmal mit Platons Philosophie gemeinsam haben, auch wenn sie sich ansonsten stark von ihr unterscheiden. Dieses Merkmal wird unterschiedlich definiert und gilt dann gemäß der jeweiligen Definition als konstitutiv für den Platonismus.

Platonisme heeft in de eerste plaats te maken met de filosofie van Plato en zijn invloed op latere filosofen. De term kan ook betrekking hebben op de betekenis die er later aan gegeven werd, namelijk het platonistisch realistisch standpunt ten overstaan van het bestaan van de universaliën.

Le platonisme ou réalisme des idées est une théorie philosophique selon laquelle il existe des entités intelligibles en soi, dont le contenu est indépendant de la contingence de l'expérience sensible. Ces entités, suivant la version du platonisme dont on parle, peuvent être les concepts (les Idées en général, comme chez Plotin ou Augustin), les nombres (platonisme mathématique, comme chez Jamblique ou Lautman), ou encore les valeurs logiques (logicisme de Frege par exemple). Cette théorie est une des réponses possibles, avec le nominalisme (Guillaume d'Ockham) et le conceptualisme (Pierre Abélard), à la question du statut ontologique des concepts cognitifs (idées, nombres ou contenus propositionnels).

Platonizm – niejednorodny nurt filozoficzny, opierający się na filozofii Platona (427-347 p.n.e.). W poszczególnych epokach historycznych, rozwijały się różne odłamy platonizmu, niejednokrotnie bardzo się od siebie różniące.
