Proterosuchidae is an early, possibly
paraphyletic, assemblage of
basal archosauriformes whose fossils are known from the Latest Permian and the Early Triassic of Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia and possibly South America. The name comes from Greek πρότερο- ("first") and σοῦχος ("
crocodile").
