Public

In public relations and communication science, publics are groups of individual people, and the public (a.k.a. the general public) is the totality of such groupings. This is a different concept to the sociological concept of the Öffentlichkeit or public sphere. The concept of a public has also been defined in political science, psychology, marketing, and advertising. In public relations and communication science, it is one of the more ambiguous concepts in the field. Although it has definitions in the theory of the field that have been formulated from the early 20th century onwards, it has suffered in more recent years from being blurred, as a result of conflation of the idea of a public with the notions of audience, market segment, community, constituency, and stakeholder.

• Públic o espectador, gent que assisteix a un esdeveniment
• Administració pública, organització que posa en pràctica les decisions preses per un govern
• Biblioteca pública, centre on es presten documents, eminentment llibres
• Corporació pública, societat mercantil en la qual el capital és dividit en accions i integrat per les aportacions dels socis, els quals no respondran personalment dels deutes
• Domini públic, béns destinats a l'ús públic
• Dret públic conjunt de branques del dret caracteritzades pel fet de què hi intervé l'estat com a ens dotat d'imperium
• Educació pública, ensenyament que s'imparteix en centres mantinguts per fons públics
• Empresa pública, empresa que és propietat de l'estat
• Esfera pública, àrea de la vida social on les persones es reuneixen, discuteixen i identifiquen problemes socials, i a través d'aquella discussió influencien l'acció política
• Obra pública, treball de construcció promogut per una administració pública
• Opinió pública, conjunt de creences, discursos i percepcions del poble d'un indret determinat sobre un assumpte
• Sector públic quan parlem del poder econòmic i institucional d'un estat
• Servei públic, reconducció d'un sector d'activitats socioeconòmiques a l'òrbita del poder públic o sector públic
