Smoking

Smoking is a practice in which a substance is burned and the resulting smoke breathed in to be tasted and absorbed into the bloodstream. Most commonly the substance is the dried leaves of the tobacco plant which have been rolled into a small square of rice paper to create a small, round cylinder called a "cigarette". Smoking is primarily practiced as a route of administration for recreational drug use because the combustion of the dried plant leaves vaporizes and delivers active substances into the lungs where they are rapidly absorbed into the bloodstream and reach bodily tissue. In the case of cigarette smoking these substances are contained in a mixture of aerosol particles and gasses and include the pharmacologically active alkaloid  nicotine; the vaporization creates heated aerosol and gas to form that allows inhalation and deep penetration into the lungs where absorption into the bloodstream of the active substances occurs. In some cultures, smoking is also carried out as a part of various rituals, where participants use it to help induce trance-like states that, they believe, can lead them to "spiritual enlightenment".

Smoking/No Smoking is a 1993 French comedy film. It was directed by Alain Resnais and written by Agnès Jaoui and Jean-Pierre Bacri, from the play Intimate Exchanges by Alan Ayckbourn. The film starred Pierre Arditi and Sabine Azéma.

The Mask is a 1994 American fantasy superhero slapstick action comedy film based on a series of comic books published by Dark Horse Comics. This film was directed by Chuck Russell, and produced by Dark Horse Entertainment and New Line Cinema, and originally released to movie theatres on July 29, 1994. The film stars Jim Carrey as Stanley Ipkiss, a man who finds the Mask of Loki, which turns him into The Mask, a grinning, magically-powered trickster uninhibited by anything, including physical reality. The film's supporting cast includes Peter Greene, Amy Yasbeck, Peter Riegert, Richard Jeni, Ben Stein, Joely Fisher, and Cameron Diaz in her feature film debut as Stanley's love interest Tina Carlyle.

Smoking / No Smoking ist ein zweiteiliges französisches Filmdrama von Alain Resnais aus dem Jahr 1993. Als literarische Vorlage diente das Bühnenstück Intimate Exchanges von Alan Ayckbourn. Sabine Azéma und Pierre Arditi, mit denen Resnais zuvor bereits mehrfach zusammengearbeitet hatte, spielen sämtliche Rollen.

Ein Smoking ist ein besonders eleganter Anzug und als solcher Teil der Abendgarderobe für Herren. Er wird auch als kleiner Gesellschaftsanzug bezeichnet (im Gegensatz zum Frack als großer Gesellschaftsanzug).

Een smoking is een twee- of driedelig kostuum dat door mannen wordt gedragen als avondkleding, dat wil zeggen bij (formele) feestelijke gelegenheden. Het bestaat uit een zwarte broek met aan de zijkant een fluwelen streep en een zwart jasje met lapellen, een wit smokingoverhemd (en wel een dress shirt), een cumberband (een sjerp (afgeleid van het Britse militaire uniform in Brits-Indië) die geplooid om het middel wordt gedragen en van hetzelfde materiaal is gemaakt als het strikje en de lapellen) en een zwarte vlinderdas. In het Engels spreekt men dan ook van black tie (pars pro toto).
