województwa) is the highest-level
administrative subdivision of Poland, corresponding to a "
province" in many other countries. The term "
województwo" has been in use since the 14th century, and is commonly translated in English as "
province". The word "
województwo" is also rendered as "
voivodeship" or a variant spelling.
