York

York is a historic walled city at the confluence of the rivers Ouse and Foss in North Yorkshire, England, and is the traditional county town of Yorkshire to which it gives its name. The city has a rich heritage and has provided the backdrop to major political events in England throughout much of its two millennia of existence. The city offers a wealth of historic attractions, of which York Minster is the most prominent, and a variety of cultural and sporting activities making it a popular tourist destination for millions.

York ist eine Stadt im Norden von England am Fluss Ouse nahe der Mündung des Foss. York war die Residenzstadt der Grafschaft Yorkshire. Heute ist die City of York eine selbständige Verwaltungseinheit (Unitary Authority), die nur zu zeremoniellen Anlässen zur Grafschaft North Yorkshire gehört.

York (Eborac en ancien français) est une ville du nord de l'Angleterre, à la confluence de deux rivières : l'Ouse et la Foss. Fondée par les Romains sous le nom d'Eboracum, elle fut la capitale de la province de Bretagne inférieure, puis des royaumes de Northumbrie, sous l'ancien nom d'Eoferwic, puis du royaume Viking Jorvik.
