The abdomen (less formally called the belly, stomach, tummy or midriff) constitutes the part of the body between the thorax (chest) and pelvis, in humans and in other vertebrates. The region enclosed by the abdomen is termed the abdominal cavity. In arthropods it is the posterior tagma of the body; it follows the thorax or cephalothorax. The abdomen stretches from the thorax at the thoracic diaphragm to the pelvis at the pelvic brim. The pelvic brim stretches from the lumbosacral joint (the intervertebral disc between L5 and S1) to the pubic symphysis and is the edge of the pelvic inlet. The space above this inlet and under the thoracic diaphragm is termed the abdominal cavity. The boundary of the abdominal cavity is the abdominal wall in the front and the peritoneal surface at the rear.

Das Abdomen (lat.  ‚Bauch‘) ist in der anatomischen Fachsprache der Bereich des Rumpfes zwischen Brustkorb und Becken. Das zugehörige Adjektiv ist abdominal.

Buick is een automerk uit de Verenigde Staten dat in 1903 werd opgericht. Het merk is eigendom van het General Motors-concern en produceert auto's in de VS, Canada en China. De afzetmarkten zijn Noord-Amerika, China, Israël en Taiwan. Buick is gepositioneerd als een lager luxemerk, te vergelijken met de voormalig Zweedse divisie Saab. De naam wordt uitgesproken als Bjoewik.

De buik of het abdomen is bij gewervelde dieren waaronder de mens een holte, de buikholte, die gevuld is met een aantal organen die vooral te maken hebben met de spijsvertering, de urineproductie en de voortplanting. Organen die zich echt in de buikholte bevinden, zoals maag, lever, milt en het overgrote deel van de darmen liggen intraperitoneaal. Organen die er wel aan grenzen maar zich niet echt in de buikholte bevinden, zoals de nieren en het pancreas, noemt men extraperitoneaal (meestal retroperitoneaal). Een orgaan als de uterus is een beetje een grensgeval.
