abstraction

Abstraction in its main sense is a  conceptual process by which general rules and concepts are derived from the usage and classification of specific examples, literal ("real" or "concrete") signifiers, first principles, or other methods. "An abstraction" is the product of this process—a concept that acts as a super-categorical noun for all subordinate concepts, and connects any related concepts as a group, field, or category.

Das Wort Abstraktion ( ‚abgezogen‘, Partizip Perfekt Passiv von ‚abziehen‘, ‚entfernen‘, ‚trennen‘) bezeichnet meist den induktiven Denkprozess des Weglassens von Einzelheiten und des Überführens auf etwas Allgemeineres oder Einfacheres. Daneben gibt es spezifische Verwendungen des Begriffes in bestimmten Einzelwissenschaften und einzelnen Theorien.

Abstractie komt van het Latijnse woord abstráhere (weglaten). Abstractie is het weglaten van alle niet-essentiële informatie en secundaire aspecten om de meer fundamentele structuren zichtbaar te maken. Zo wordt een verkorte samenvatting van een wetenschappelijk werk soms ook 'een abstract' genoemd. Wie beschikt over voldoende 'abstractievermogen' kan goed 'in grote lijnen' denken.

En philosophie, la notion d’abstraction renvoie à une opération de l'esprit par laquelle les propriétés générales, universelles, ou nécessaires et contingentes d'un objet sont distinguées de ses propriétés particulières, relatives. Elle peut également renvoyer aux produits de cette opération.
