In organic chemistry, acetyl is a functional group, the acyl with chemical formula OCH₃. It is sometimes represented by the symbol Ac (not to be confused with the element actinium). The acetyl group contains a methyl group single-bonded to a carbonyl. The carbonyl center of an acyl radical has one nonbonded electron with which it forms a chemical bond to the remainder R of the molecule. In IUPAC nomenclature, acetyl is called ethanoyl, although this term is rarely heard. The acetyl moiety is a component of many organic compounds, including acetic acid, the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, acetyl-CoA, acetylcysteine, and the analgesics acetaminophen (also known as paracetamol) and acetylsalicylic acid (better known as aspirin).

Der Begriff Acetylgruppe (abgekürzt: Ac) bezeichnet die chemische Struktur −C(O)CH₃, die sich aus der Carbonyl- und Methylgruppe zusammensetzt. Sie ist der Acyl-Rest der Essigsäure (AcOH). Die Bezeichnung ist abgeleitet vom lateinischen acetum = „Essig“ sowie vom altgriechischen ὕλη = „Stoff, Materie“.

Le groupe acétyle est le groupement acyle de l'acide acétique. Sa formule chimique est COCH₃, parfois écrite Ac (à ne pas confondre avec l'élément chimique actinium). Une molécule contenant le groupe acétyle a la structure chimique suivante :

Grupa acetylowa (acetyl, Ac, −COMe; z łac. acetum = ocet i gr. hýlē = materia) – rodzaj grupy funkcyjnej typu acylowego wywodzącej się z kwasu octowego. Zawiera ugrupowanie CH₃−C(O)−. Występuje w pochodnych tego kwasu, np. chlorku acetylu (AcCl), bezwodniku octowym (Ac₂O), estrach octanowych (AcOR), amidach (AcNRR'), np. w acetamidzie (AcNH₂), acetanilidzie (AcNHPh) oraz w wielu innych związkach.
