Eine Vereinbarung ist eine bindende Verabredung. Das zugrundeliegende Verb vereinbaren ist in der Bedeutung „eines Sinnes werden“ im Deutschen seit dem 14. Jahrhundert belegt (mhd. vereinbæren zu mhd. einbære „einhellig, einträchtig“). Sie wird freiwillig geschlossen.
