The Annunciation (from the Vulgate Latin ), also referred to as the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Annunciation of Our Lady or the Annunciation of the Lord, is the Christian celebration of the announcement by the angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary that she would conceive and become the mother of Jesus, the Son of God, marking his Incarnation. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Yehoshua , meaning "YHWH is salvation".

Verkündigung bzw. verkündigen ist das nachdrückliche Kundtun eines wichtigen Sachverhalts. Das Wort wird vor allem im Bereich der Religion verwendet (siehe auch Kerygma) und ist dort gleichbedeutend mit dem Predigen von Gottes Wort.

Verkündigung des Herrn, , auch Mariä Verkündigung , ist ein Fest am 25. März, das in vielen christlichen Konfessionen gefeiert wird. Es wurde auch (‚Empfängnis Christi‘), früher auch Ancilla (‚Magd [Gottes]‘) genannt. Gefeiert wird die Verheißung der Geburt Jesu an Maria.

Annunciatie (annuntiatie), Verkondiging, Maria-Boodschap of Aankondiging van de Heer (Annuntiationis Domini in het Latijn) is het hoogfeest ter gedachtenis van de aankondiging (annunciatie) van de geboorte van Jezus aan Maria. In de Orthodoxe Kerk en Rooms-katholieke Kerk valt deze feestdag op 25 maart, dus negen maanden voor Kerstmis.
