anthropology

Anthropology is the study of humanity. Its main subdivisions are social and cultural anthropology, which describes the workings of societies around the world, linguistic anthropology, which investigates the influence of language in social life, and biological or physical anthropology, which concerns long-term development of the human organism. Archaeology, which studies past human cultures through investigation of physical evidence, is thought of as a branch of anthropology in the United States, although in Europe, it is viewed as a discipline in its own right, or grouped under related disciplines such as history.

Anthropologie ( „Mensch“, und -logie: Menschenkunde) ist die Wissenschaft vom Menschen. Sie wird im deutschen Sprachraum und in vielen europäischen Ländern vor allem als Naturwissenschaft verstanden. Die naturwissenschaftliche oder physische Anthropologie betrachtet den Menschen im Anschluss an die Evolutionstheorie von Charles Darwin als biologisches Wesen.

Antropologie is een tak van wetenschap die de mens in al zijn aspecten, zowel fysiek als cultureel, bestudeert. Antropologie wordt tot de gedragswetenschap en de sociale wetenschap gerekend. Doordat antropologie zo'n breed veld bestrijkt werd vanaf midden 20e eeuw een opdeling gemaakt in verschillende specialistische studiegebieden.

L'anthropologie est la branche des sciences qui étudie l'être humain sous tous ses aspects, à la fois physiques (anatomiques, morphologiques, physiologiques, évolutifs, etc.) et culturels (socio-religieux, psychologiques, géographiques, etc.). Elle tend à définir l'humanité en faisant une synthèse des différentes sciences humaines et naturelles. Le terme anthropologie vient de deux mots grecs, anthrôpos, qui signifie (au sens générique), et logos, qui signifie parole, discours.
