Betrayal is the breaking or violation of a presumptive contract, trust, or confidence that produces moral and psychological conflict within a relationship amongst individuals, between organizations or between individuals and organizations. Often betrayal is the act of supporting a rival group, or it is a complete break from previously decided upon or presumed norms by one party from the others. Someone who betrays others is commonly called a traitor or betrayer. Betrayal is also a commonly used literary element and is often associated with or used as a plot twist.

Verrat ist ein besonders schwerer Vertrauensbruch, der die angenommene Loyalität verletzt. Die Bedeutung des Wortes Verrat hat sich differenziert. Während das mittelalterliche Verständnis nicht zwischen dem Verrat einer Person und einer ideellen Sache unterschied, ist das heutige Verratsverständnis differenzierter und impliziert durchaus eine negative Konnotation. Bestehende Verratsdefinitionen erscheinen aber unzureichend und eine Verratstheorie als solche ist nur in Ansätzen ausformuliert.

Betrayer - polska grupa muzyczna wykonująca death metal. Powstała w 1989 roku w Słupsku w składzie Wojciech "Molly" Moliński (perkusja, śpiew), Maciej "Northon" Maciejewski (gitara), Mariusz "Morris" Zieliński (gitara) oraz Maciej Różański (gitara basowa). Grupa oscylowała wówczas w gatunku thrash metal. Po opuszczeniu zespołu przez dotychczasowego basistę Macieja Różańskiego i zarazem dołączenia do zespołu Piotra "Beriala" Kuzioły, zespół zmienił styl na death metal.

Belphegor je rakouská death metalová kapela založená pod puvodním názvem Betrayer v roce 1991 v Salzburgu, soucasné pojmenování vzniklo v roce 1993 po démonu Belfegorovi. Hrají takzvaný blackened death metal. K roku 2011 kapela vydala 9 studiových alb.
