A bottle is a rigid container with a neck that is narrower than the body and a mouth. By contrast, a jar  has a relatively large mouth or opening which may be as wide as the overall container. Bottles are often made of glass, clay, plastic, aluminium or other impervious materials, and typically used to store liquids such as water, milk, soft drinks, beer, wine, cooking oil, medicine, shampoo, ink, and chemicals. A device applied in the bottling line to seal the mouth of a bottle is termed an external bottle cap, closure, or internal stopper. A bottle can also be sealed by a conductive "innerseal" by using induction sealing.

Eine Flasche ist ein verschließbares Behältnis zum Transport und zur Lagerung von Flüssigkeiten und Gasen, sowie schüttbaren Feststoffen, wie Pulver. Sie besteht üblicherweise aus Glas oder Kunststoff mitunter aus Metall.

Een fles is een langwerpig, meestal rond vat van glas, kunststof, aardewerk of metaal, waarin over het algemeen vloeistoffen worden bewaard. Het belangrijkste verschil met andere vloeistof bevattende vaten is de voor de fles typische hals, die smaller is dan het vat zelf. De hals wordt vaak afgesloten met een kurk, een (schroef)dop, een stop of een kroonkurk.

Une bouteille est un récipient généralement cylindrique à sa base et qui se resserre à son sommet. Les bouteilles sont le plus souvent en verre ou en plastique, fabriquées par le procédé de moulage par soufflage, parfois en grès, et servent à conserver des liquides alimentaires : eau, lait, vin, bière, huile, etc, ou non alimentaires : produits chimiques, détergents, parfums, etc. Par métonymie, le terme de bouteille désigne aussi son contenu (comme c'est le cas de « verre »). On dit par exemple « boire une bonne bouteille ».
