A breed is a specific group of domestic animals having appearance (phenotype), homogeneous behavior, and/or other characteristics that distinguish it from other organisms of the same species and that were arrived at through selective breeding. Despite the centrality of the idea of "breeds" to animal husbandry and agriculture, no single, scientifically accepted definition of the term exists. A breed is therefore not an objective or biologically verifiable classification but is instead a term of art amongst groups of breeders who share a consensus around what qualities make some members of a given species members of a nameable subset.

Bij dieren is sprake van een ras, als het dier is gedomesticeerd en herkenbaar is als een lid van dat ras en een afstammingsbewijs (stamboom) dat aantoont.

Breed is een organisatie die voor de gemeente Nijmegen en omstreken de Wet Sociale Werkvoorziening uitvoert. Breed is behalve in Nijmegen werkzaam in de volgende gemeenten: Beuningen, Druten, Groesbeek, Heumen, Millingen a/d Rijn, Ubbergen, West Maas en Waal en Wijchen. De Wsw houdt in dat mensen met een lichamelijke, verstandelijke en/of psychische handicap, die (nog) niet in staat zijn te werken op de reguliere arbeidsmarkt, aangepast werk wordt aangeboden. De huidige rechtsvorm die Breed voert is een gemeenschappelijke regeling (GR). De GR is een vorm van samenwerking tussen verschillende gemeenten.

Plemeno (rasa) je populace zvírat téhož druhu a shodného fylogenetického puvodu s charakteristickými vlastnostmi a znaky, které prenáší na potomstvo, schopná se reprodukovat. Plemeno je umele vytvorenou taxonomickou jednotkou pro potreby zootechniky. Vzniklo kvuli velké variabilite hospodárských zvírat v rámci druhu. Plemena hospodárských zvírat vznikla na základe cíleného výberu clovekem pri reprodukci z primitivních divokých predku nebo plemen. Pozdeji vyšlechtena plemena vznikla také kombinacním krížením již existujících plemen.
