An electrical cable is made of two or more wires running side by side and bonded, twisted, or braided together to form a single assembly, the ends of which can be connected to two devices, enabling the transfer of electrical signals from one device to the other. Cables are used for a wide range of purposes, and each must be tailored for that purpose. Cables are used extensively in electronic devices for power and signal circuits. Long-distance communication takes place over undersea cables. Power cables are used for bulk transmission of alternating and direct current power, especially using high-voltage cable. Electrical cables are extensively used in building wiring for lighting, power and control circuits permanently installed in buildings. Since all the circuit conductors required can be installed in a cable at one time, installation labor is saved compared to certain other wiring methods.

George Andrew Cables (* 14. November 1944 in Brooklyn, New York City) ist ein US-amerikanischer  Jazz-Pianist, Komponist und Bandleader des Modern Jazz.

Als Kabel wird allgemein ein mit Isolierstoffen ummantelter ein- oder mehradriger Verbund von Adern (Einzelleitungen) bezeichnet, welcher der Übertragung von Energie oder Information dient. Als Isolierstoffe kommen üblicherweise unterschiedliche Kunststoffe zu Anwendung, welche die als Leiter genutzten Adern umgeben und gegeneinander isolieren. Elektrische Leiter bestehen meist aus Kupfer, seltener auch aus Aluminium oder geeigneten Metalllegierungen. Lichtwellenleiter bestehen aus Kunststoff- oder Quarzglasfasern, weshalb in diesem Zusammenhang auch von Glasfaserkabeln gesprochen wird. Dreidimensional betrachtet, folgt das Kabel einer meist zylindrischen oder ähnlichen Geometrie und kann im Gesamtaufbau noch weitere Mantellagen aus isolierendem Material oder metallische Folien, bzw. Geflechte zum Zweck der elektromagnetischen Abschirmung oder als mechanischer Schutz enthalten.

Se llama cable a un conductor (generalmente cobre) o conjunto de ellos generalmente recubierto de un material aislante o protector, si bien también se usa el nombre de cable para transmisores de luz (cable de fibra óptica) o esfuerzo mecánico (cable mecánico).

Kabel je soustava dvou nebo více elektrických nebo optických vodicu spojených spolecným pláštem. Jednotlivé vodice (žíly) elektrického kabelu mohou být nejen z plného drátu, ale také lanené, složené z tenkých drátku. Takový vodic se oznacuje jako licna. Žíly silnoproudých kabelu už od prurezu 25 mm² jsou složené z jednotlivých tencích drátu. Žíly je tak možné zformovat a dosáhnout kruhového prurezu výsledného kabelu. Mluvíme potom o sektorovaném vodici. Kabel nemusí obsahovat jen elektrické vodice, ale i napríklad optické vlákno nebo nekolik koaxiálních kabelu.
