catcher

Catcher is also a general term for a fielder who catches the ball in cricket.

Catcher is a position for a baseball or softball player. When a batter takes his/her turn to hit, the catcher crouches behind home plate, in front of the (home) umpire, and receives the ball from the pitcher. In addition to these primary duties, the catcher is also called upon to master many other skills in order to field the position well. The role of the catcher is similar to that of the wicket-keeper in cricket.

Der Catcher oder Fänger ist ein Spieler und/oder eine Position im Baseball- und Softballsport. Er hockt normalerweise direkt hinter der Home Plate, solange seine Mannschaft in der Defensive ist. Die Kombination aus Catcher und Pitcher wird als battery oder batterymen bezeichnet.

El receptor, cachar o catcher es el jugador que en su turno defensivo ocupa su posición directamente detrás del home en el juego, y deporte, llamado béisbol y sóftbol, y recibe los envíos del Lanzador. Al jugador en esta posición también se le ha conocido por el anglicismo catcher (del inglés catch, atrapar, cachar,atajar). A ésta posición se le asigna el número 2.

De achtervanger, vaak met het Engelse woord catcher aangeduid, is een speler in het honkbal of softbal die, als zijn team verdedigt, achter de thuisplaat gehurkt zit en de aangegooide ballen van de werper ontvangt. Bovendien bewaakt hij de thuisplaat als honk. De rol is vergelijkbaar met een wicketkeeper bij cricket.

Un receveur (en anglais catcher) est un joueur de baseball qui reçoit les balles du lanceur. Placé entre le frappeur de l'autre équipe et l'arbitre, il se tient accroupi derrière le marbre, ce qui fait de lui le seul joueur de position sur le terrain à être « hors jeu » quand la balle est lancée par le lanceur.
