Cell division is the process by which a parent cell divides into two or more daughter cells. Cell division usually occurs as part of a larger cell cycle. In eukaryotes, there are two distinct types of cell division: a vegetative division, whereby each daughter cell is genetically identical to the parent cell (mitosis), and a reductive cell division, whereby the number of chromosomes in the daughter cells is reduced by half, to produce haploid gametes (meiosis). Meiosis results in four haploid daughter cells by undergoing one round of DNA replication followed by two divisions: homologous chromosomes are separated in the first division, and sister chromatids are separated in the second division. Both of these cell division cycles are used in sexually reproducing organisms at some point in their life cycle, and both are believed to be present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor. Prokaryotes also undergo a vegetative cell division known as binary fission, where their genetic material is segregated equally into two daughter cells. All cell divisions, regardless of organism, are preceded by a single round of DNA replication.

Cell Division ist eine Band aus der Schweiz, welche im Jahr 1995 in Zürich gegründet wurde. Die Band spielte im Vorprogramm von HIM, Das Ich, Beborn Beton, De/Vision, Threshold, Zeraphine, Diva Destruction. Das Album Tsunami, die Single Dirge for the Doomed und einige Songs vom Album Chymeia wurden im Musikstudio von Thommy Hein in Berlin aufgenommen.

Die Zellteilung oder Cytokinese, auch Zytokinese (von altgr. κύττος kytos ‚Zelle‘ und κίνησις kinesis ‚Bewegung‘), ist der biologische Vorgang der Teilung einer Zelle. Das Plasma und andere Bestandteile der Mutterzelle werden auf die Tochterzellen aufgeteilt, indem zwischen ihnen Zellmembranen eingezogen oder ausgebildet werden. Dabei entstehen meistens zwei, manchmal auch mehr Tochterzellen.

Cell Division is een internationaal, aan collegiale toetsing onderworpen open access wetenschappelijk tijdschrift op het gebied van de celbiologie. De naam wordt in literatuurverwijzingen meestal afgekort tot Cell Div. Het is opgericht in 2006 en wordt uitgegeven door BioMed Central.

La division cellulaire est le mode de multiplication de toute cellule. Elle lui permet de se diviser en plusieurs cellules (deux le plus souvent). C'est donc un processus fondamental dans le monde vivant, puisqu'il est nécessaire à la régénération de tout organisme.

• Chez les Eucaryotes — caractérisés principalement par des cellules qui possèdent un noyau — il y a deux types de division cellulaire :
  • La mitose qui n'autorise qu'une multiplication asexuée; elle permet la régénération d'un organe, et aussi la croissance.
  • La méiose qui permet la reproduction sexuée.
