characterisation

Characterization or characterisation is the concept of creating characters for a narrative. It is a literary element and may be employed in dramatic works of art or everyday conversation. Characters may be presented by means of description, through their actions, speech, thoughts and interactions with other characters.

Als Charakterisierung wird die Darstellung einer Person in erzählenden Kontexten bezeichnet. Ist diese Person fiktional, so handelt es sich um eine fiktive oder literarische Figur.

Il character design o chara design (espressione derivata dall'inglese che letteralmente significa "progettazione dei personaggi") è, nel mondo dell'animazione e del fumetto, quella parte del lavoro che consiste nello studio grafico e nella caratterizzazione, in parte anche psicologica, dei personaggi della storia creati dall'autore.

Charakteryzacja w literaturze jest to proces tworzenia postaci, których cechy zewnętrzne i wewnętrzne różnią się zazwyczaj od cech autora. Dzięki temu pisarz może prowadzić narrację np. z punktu widzenia dziecka, osoby przeciwnej płci, przedstawiciela innej rasy lub kultury, lub dowolnej postaci, która różni się od twórcy wyglądem i osobowością.
