Northern Virginia–commonly referred to as NOVA–comprises several counties and independent cities in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in a widespread region generally radiating southerly and westward from Washington, D.C. With 2.8 million residents (about a third of the state), it is the most populous region of Virginia and the Washington metropolitan area. As the term is most often used, it excludes such areas as Warren County and Winchester; "Northeastern Virginia" more closely approximates the area usually meant.

A nova (plural or novas) is a cataclysmic nuclear explosion on a white dwarf, which causes a sudden brightening of the star. Novae are not to be confused with other brightening phenomena such as supernovae or luminous red novae. Novae are thought to occur on the surface of a white dwarf in a binary system when they are sufficiently near to one another, allowing material (mostly hydrogen) to be pulled from the companion star's surface onto the white dwarf. The nova is the result of the rapid fusion of the accreted hydrogen on the surface of the star, commencing a runaway fusion reaction.

En France, le contrat nouvelles embauches, plus communément appelé CNE, était un type de contrat de travail sans limitation de durée (ou Contrat à durée indéterminée) pour les entreprises de vingt salariés au plus (PME et TPE). Durant la période dite de « consolidation de l'emploi » de deux années, la rupture sans annoncer le motif de licenciement était possible (même si ce motif pouvait être demandé en cas de litige aux prud'hommes), moyennant un préavis court et une indemnité de 8 % sur le total de la rémunération si l'employeur était à l'origine de la rupture.
