Contracting (englisch die Kontrahierung bzw. adjektivisch vertragschließend) bezeichnet eine Kooperationsform mittels eines Vertrags zwischen Contractingnehmer und einem Contractinggeber (Dienstleistungsunternehmen). In seiner Hauptanwendungsform des Liefer-, Anlagen-, Energie- oder Wärme-Contractings bezieht sich der Begriff auf die Bereitstellung bzw. Lieferung von Betriebsstoffen (Wärme, Kälte, Strom, Dampf, Druckluft usw.) und den Betrieb zugehöriger Anlagen.

Ein Vertrag koordiniert und regelt das soziale Verhalten durch eine gegenseitige Selbstverpflichtung. Er wird freiwillig zwischen zwei (oder auch mehr) Parteien geschlossen.
