Eine Kurbel ist ein stabförmiges, an einem Ende drehbares Maschinenelement, die mit Hilfe einer Kraft an ihrem freien Ende in Drehung versetzt werden kann. Die Betätigung erfolgte ursprünglich nur mit Hand- oder Fußkraft an einem Kurbelgriff oder auf ein Pedal, um damit eine Maschine anzutreiben. Bei Koppelgetrieben ist die Kurbel das antreibende, meistens umlaufende ("Kurbelumdrehung") Getriebeglied. Dafür hat sie an jedem Ende ein Drehgelenk.
