crumble

A crumble, also known as a brown betty, is a dish of British origin that can be made in a sweet or savoury version, depending on ingredients used, although the sweet version is much more common. A sweet variety usually contains stewed fruit topped with a crumbly mixture of fat (usually butter), flour, and sugar. A savoury version uses meat, vegetables and a sauce for the filling, with cheese replacing sugar in the crumble mix. The crumble is baked in an oven until the topping is crisp. The dessert variety is often served with custard, cream or ice cream as a hearty, warm dessert after a meal. The savoury variety can be served with accompanying vegetables.

Crumble (dt.: Krümel) ist eine Nachspeise der englischen und US-amerikanischen Küche. Dabei handelt es sich um mit Streuseln überbackene Früchte (z. B. Äpfel und Rhabarber). Rezepte für diese Süßspeise gibt es erst seit dem 20. Jahrhundert, möglicherweise wurde sie während des Zweiten Weltkriegs in England erfunden.

El crumble es un pastel con frutas. Se elabora con diversas frutas que se recubren con una masa de harina, manteca (generalmente mantequilla) y azúcar. Todo ello se introduce en el horno. Se suele servir como postre caliente acompañado de natillas, nata, helado o compotas de diferentes frutas.

Le crumble, en général aux fruits est un gâteau d’origine britannique composé d’une couche de fruits dans le fond du plat, et d’une couche de pâte à l’apparence émiettée d’où le nom : en anglais  signifie « tomber en miettes ».

Il crumble è un piatto di origine inglese e irlandese. Esistono due versioni del piatto: dolce o salata.
