In cryptozoology and sometimes in cryptobotany, both pseudoscience, a cryptid (from the Greek κρύπτω, krypto, meaning "hide") is an animal or plant whose existence has been suggested but has not been discovered or documented by the scientific community. Cryptids often appear in folklore and mythology, leading to stories and unfounded belief about their existence. Well-known examples include the Yeti in the Himalayas, the Loch Ness Monster in Scotland, Sasquatch in North America, the Jersey Devil in the New Jersey Pine Barrens, and the Chupacabra in Latin America.

Kryptyda – hipotetyczne zwierzę, którego istnienie jest obiektem badań kryptozoologów, lecz nie zostało potwierdzone przez zoologię. Kryptydy to zwierzęta uznane za dawno wymarłe, bądź znane z przekazów. Poszukiwaniem kryptyd zajmują się kryptozoolodzy.

Criptido ou criptídeo é um termo usado em criptozoologia para se referir a uma criatura cuja existência é sugerida mas não há provas científicas que exista realmente. Abrange criaturas lendárias como o Ieti, o Pé-grande e o Monstro do lago Ness, assim como espécies extintas cuja sobrevivência é sugerida pelos criptozoologistas, como os dinossauros.
