detonation

Detonation is a type of combustion involving a supersonic exothermic front accelerating through a medium that eventually drives a shock front propagating directly in front of it. Detonations occur in both conventional solid and liquid explosives, as well as in reactive gases. The velocity of detonation in solid and liquid explosives is much higher than that in gaseous ones, which allows the wave system to be observed with greater detail (higher resolution).

Eine Detonation ist eine Explosion, bei der die Ausbreitung der chemischen Reaktion im Sprengstoff mit einer Stoßwelle gekoppelt ist. Im Gegensatz zu einer Deflagration, also dem im Vergleich zur Schallgeschwindigkeit des Sprengstoffs langsamen Abbrand, gibt es bei der Detonation auch ohne Verdämmung einen Knall.

Detonation is een Nederlandse metalband die technische en melodieuze death/thrashmetal speelt. De leden van de in 1997 opgerichte band zijn Koen Romeijn (gitaar en zang), Mike Ferguson (gitaar), Matthieu Boer (drums) en Otto Schimmelpenninck (basgitaar). Ze hebben na An Epic Defiance’’(2003), Portals To Uphobia’’(2005), en Emission Phase’’(2007) in maart 2011 hun 4e album Reprisal’’ uitgebracht. In 2014 zal er gewerkt worden aan het langverwachte 5e studioalbum.

Detonatie is een naam voor een specifieke vorm van explosie. Bij een detonatie plant het reactiefront in de explosieve stof zich sneller voort dan de geluidssnelheid in die stof. Een detonatie plant zich fysisch voort door middel van een schokfront, met detonatiesnelheden die wel 5 tot 7 km/s kan bereiken.

Une détonation est une oxydation violente telle qu'une onde de combustion explosive (simple déflagration) mais plus violente car transmise mécaniquement par onde de choc. Les combustions, explosives ou non, se transmettent par la chaleur.

I Detonation sono una band death metal/thrash metal di Utrecht (Paesi Bassi), nato nel 1997 con il nome "Infernal Dream", cambiato l'anno successivo nell'attuale Detonation.
