diagonal

In geometry, a diagonal is a line segment joining two vertices of a polygon or polyhedron, when those vertices are not on the same edge. Informally, any sloping line is called diagonal. The word "diagonal" derives from the ancient Greek διαγώνιος diagonios, "from angle to angle" (from διά- dia-, "through", "across" and γωνία gonia, "angle", related to gony "knee"); it was used by both Strabo and Euclid to refer to a line connecting two vertices of a rhombus or cuboid, and later adopted into Latin as diagonus ("slanting line").

Diagonale bezeichnet

Die Diagonale ist ein Filmfestival das in den Jahren 1993, 1994 und 1995 in Salzburg stattfand und seit 1998 jährlich in Graz veranstaltet wird. Es versteht sich als umfassende Jahresfilmschau des österreichischen Filmschaffens, die alle Genres (Spielfilm, Dokumentarfilm, Kurzfilm, Avantgarde etc.) abdecken möchte.

Diagonale (von altgriech. διά dia: „durch“ und γωνία gonia: „Ecke, Winkel“) ist ein Begriff aus der Geometrie. Allgemein bezeichnet der Begriff gewisse Strecken, die Ecken von Flächen oder Körpern miteinander verbinden; für die präzise Definition siehe unten.

Una diagonal es todo segmento que une dos vértices diagonalmente no consecutivos de un polígono o de un poliedro. En sentido coloquial, una diagonal es una recta o segmento con cierta inclinación o un conjunto de elementos alineados de esta manera.

In de meetkunde is een diagonaal een type lijnstuk tussen twee niet-aangrenzende hoeken van een veelhoek. In de wiskundige analyse wordt de term gebruikt in de context van matrices.

On appelle diagonale d'un polygone tout segment reliant deux sommets non consécutifs (non reliés par un côté). Un polygone à n côtés possède donc diagonales.
