diatonic scale

In music theory, a diatonic scale (or heptatonia prima) is a scale composed of seven distinct pitch classes. The diatonic scale includes five whole steps and two half steps for each octave, in which the two half steps are separated from each other by either two or three whole steps, depending on their position in the scale. This pattern ensures that, in a diatonic scale spanning more than one octave, all the half steps are maximally separated from each other (i.e. separated by at least two whole steps). The word "diatonic" comes from the Greek , meaning progressing through tones.

Diatonik (von griech. διάτονος „durch Ganztöne gehend“, zu διά „durch“ und τόνος „Anspannung“, „Ton“) bezeichnet in der Musiktheorie eine bezüglich Melodik und Harmonik eher einfache musikalische Gestaltung, die auf Chromatik und Enharmonik verzichtet.

Onder diatoniek (Grieks: διατονικός, door (hele) tonen (gaand)) worden in de muziektheorie toonstelsels verstaan, gebaseerd op een verdeling van het octaaf in vijf grotere en twee kleinere intervallen, zodanig dat de kleinere intervallen zo ver mogelijk uiteen liggen. De grotere intervallen zijn alle van ongeveer gelijke omvang en worden hele toonafstanden genoemd. De kleinere intervallen zijn ongeveer van halve omvang van de grotere en worden halve toonafstanden genoemd.

L'échelle diatonique est une échelle musicale heptatonique (dont la gamme contient 7 degrés), composée de 5 tons et 2 demi-tons. Les deux demi-tons sont toujours séparés par 2 ou 3 tons.
