Diplomacy (from the Greek , "official document conferring a privilege") is the art and practice of conducting negotiations between representatives of states. It usually refers to international diplomacy, the conduct of international relations through the intercession of professional diplomats with regard to issues of peace-making, trade, war, economics, culture, environment, and human rights. International treaties are usually negotiated by diplomats prior to endorsement by national politicians. In an informal or social sense, diplomacy is the employment of tact to gain strategic advantage or to find mutually acceptable solutions to a common challenge, one set of tools being the phrasing of statements in a non-confrontational, or polite manner.

Diplomacy ist ein Brettspiel von Allan B. Calhamer, welches die europäischen Machtverhältnisse vor dem Ersten Weltkrieg simuliert. Wichtiger als strategisches Geschick sind bei diesem Spiel vor allem das Führen diplomatischer Verhandlungen und das geschickte Aushandeln von Bündnissen zwischen den verschiedenen Spielern. Da es nur einen Sieger bei diesem Spiel gibt, ist man früher oder später gezwungen, die Bündnisse wieder zu brechen.

Diplomatie ist die Kunst und Praxis des Verhandelns zwischen bevollmächtigten Repräsentanten verschiedener Gruppen oder Nationen (Diplomaten). Der Begriff bezieht sich meist auf die internationale Diplomatie, also die Pflege zwischenstaatlicher und überstaatlicher Beziehungen durch Absprachen über Angelegenheiten wie Friedenssicherung, Kultur, Wirtschaft, Handel und Konflikte. Internationale Verträge werden in der Regel von Diplomaten ausgehandelt; dabei handeln diese im Auftrag ihrer Regierungen und vertreten deren Interessen.

Diplomacy, conocido en la Argentina como "1914, el juego de la Diplomacia" y en España como "Diplomacia", es uno de los juegos de mesa de estrategia militar más representativos. Entre las características que lo destacan de los demás pueden señalarse las siguientes: se juega por turnos, la acción es simultánea, los jugadores interactúan entre ellos y el factor suerte es reducido. Esto ocurre en muchos otros juegos, pero no de la misma forma.
