diplomatic

Diplomatics (in American English, and in most anglophone countries), or diplomatic (in British English), is a scholarly discipline centred on the critical analysis of documents – particularly, but not exclusively, historical documents. It focuses on the conventions, protocols and formulae that have been used by document creators, and uses these to increase understanding of the processes of document creation, of information transmission, and of the relationships between the facts which the documents purport to record and reality.

Diplomatie ist die Kunst und Praxis des Verhandelns zwischen bevollmächtigten Repräsentanten verschiedener Gruppen oder Nationen (Diplomaten). Der Begriff bezieht sich meist auf die internationale Diplomatie, also die Pflege zwischenstaatlicher und überstaatlicher Beziehungen durch Absprachen über Angelegenheiten wie Friedenssicherung, Kultur, Wirtschaft, Handel und Konflikte. Internationale Verträge werden in der Regel von Diplomaten ausgehandelt; dabei handeln diese im Auftrag ihrer Regierungen und vertreten deren Interessen.

Diplomatie is de kunst en kunde van het voeren van overleg tussen twee groepen om daarmee een bepaald doel te bereiken. Meer specifiek worden met diplomatie de geformaliseerde relaties tussen (meestal onafhankelijke) politieke entiteiten bedoeld, meestal staten.

La diplomatie est la conduite de négociations et de reconnaissances diplomatiques entre les personnes, les groupes ou les nations en réglant un problème sans violence. Utilisée formellement, elle se rapporte habituellement à la diplomatie internationale, la conduite des relations internationales par l’entremise (habituellement) de diplomates professionnels.
