Divination
Divination (from Latin divinare "to foresee, to be inspired by a god", related to divinusdivine) is the attempt to gain insight into a question or situation by way of an occultic, standardized process or ritual. Used in various forms throughout history, diviners ascertain their interpretations of how a querent should proceed by reading signs, events, or omens, or through alleged contact with a supernatural agency.

dowsing (divining, questing, water witching)
Purported means of gaining insight into the diagnosis and treatment of physical and emotional health problems (see "radiesthesia."). It encompasses forms of remote diagnosis: one involving a recent photograph of the subject, another a stand-in ("proxy") for the subject. Elementary dowsing tools include the forked branch (divining rod) and the pendulum. Dowsing's postulate is that human thoughts "transcend" human bodies, species, and spacetime as usually conceived.
