drilling

Drilling is a cutting process that uses a drill bit to cut or enlarge a hole of circular cross-section in solid materials. The drill bit is a rotary cutting tool, often multipoint. The bit is pressed against the workpiece and rotated at rates from hundreds to thousands of revolutions per minute. This forces the cutting edge against the workpiece, cutting off chips (swarf) from the hole as it is drilled.

Bohrung (auch Bohrloch) ist der technische Begriff für eine meist runde, seltener unrunde, Vertiefung oder einen Durchbruch. Voraussetzung ist die Herstellung der Bohrung mittels rotierender Werkzeuge (Bohrer). Nur in Ausnahmen wie dem Bohrerodieren oder Laserbohren spricht man ebenfalls von einer Bohrung.

Le perçage est un usinage consistant à faire un trou dans une pièce. Ce trou peut traverser la pièce de part en part ou bien ne pas déboucher. On parle alors de trou borgne.

Nella letteratura anglosassone il termine drilling è usato per indicare la rotazione intorno ad un asse ortogonale al piano di un elemento finito bidimensionale.

Wiercenie – skrawanie w pełnym materiale za pomocą narzędzia zwanego wiertłem, w wyniku którego otrzymujemy otwór o przekroju najczęściej kołowym. Przy zastosowaniu specjalnych wierteł metodą wiercenia wtórnego możliwe jest uzyskanie otworu wielokątnego (np. trójkątnego, czworokątnego). Wiercenie wykonywane jest najczęściej na wiertarkach stacjonarnych lub wiertarek przenośnych, najczęściej ręcznych. Wiercenie odbywa się jeżeli wiertło się obraca, a przedmiot obrabiany pozostaje nieruchomy lub gdy wiertło jest nieruchome, a przedmiot obrabiany obraca się np.: wiercenie na tokarce. Dodatkowo wiercenie można wykonywać na frezarkach warsztatowych.
