In botany, a drupe (or stone fruit) is an indehiscent fruit in which an outer fleshy part (exocarp, or skin; and mesocarp, or flesh) surrounds a shell (the pit, stone, or pyrene) of hardened endocarp with a seed (kernel) inside. These fruits usually develop from a single carpel, and mostly from flowers with superior ovaries (polypyrenous drupes are exceptions). The definitive characteristic of a drupe is that the hard, "lignified" stone (or pit) is derived from the ovary wall of the flower—in an aggregate fruit composed of small, individual drupes (such as a raspberry), each individual is termed a drupelet and may together form a botanic berry.

Steinfrüchte sind Schließfrüchte, bei denen der Samen von einem verholzten Kern umschlossen ist. Dabei ist das Exokarp häutig, das Mesokarp fleischig, während das Endokarp den holzigen Stein (Steinkern) bildet, in dem der Samen liegt.

Een steenvrucht is een vrucht waarvan de binnenwand, het endocarp, uit een stenige wand bestaat. Bijvoorbeeld de stenige wand van een kersenpit, pruimenpit, sinaasappelpit, walnoot, olijf of die van de bramenpitjes. In de pit (de "steen") zit het eigenlijke zaad.

En botanique, une drupe est un fruit charnu à noyau, comme la cerise, l'abricot ou l'olive. Il est issu d'un pistil à carpelle unique, du type « infère » non adhérent. Dans le cas de fleurs à plusieurs carpelles libres, on obtient un fruit composé ou polydrupe, telle la mûre de la ronce. Il est en général indéhiscent (bien que la déhiscence ne soit pas nécessaire dans le cas d'un fruit charnu dont la chair se décompose rapidement, libérant le noyau).

Pestkowiec (ang. drupe, stone fruit, łac. drupa) – rodzaj owocu mięsistego. Podczas tworzenia się pestkowców zewnętrzna część owocni (egzokarp) tworzy skórkę, środkowa część (mezokarp) mięśnieje, a wewnętrzna część (endokarp) twardnieje i drewnieje. Twarda, wewnętrzna część owocni nazywana jest pestką i różni ten typ owocu od jagody, która jest zmięśniała w całości.
