Dysplasia (from Ancient Greek δυσ- dys-, "bad" or "difficult" and πλάσις plasis, "formation") is an ambiguous term used in pathology to refer to an abnormality of development or an epithelial anomaly of growth and differentiation (epithelial dysplasia).

This is a potentially pre-malignant cutaneous tumour. Histologically the mole may look atypical but not frankly malignant. Individuals with this condition have an increase risk of developing malignant melanoma.They should have their mole photographed and regularly reviewed.
