Das Environment (englisch environment = das Umfeld, die Umgebung) ist ein in den späten 1950er Jahren aus dem amerikanischen Englisch entlehnter Begriff für künstlerische Arbeiten, die sich mit der Beziehung zwischen Objekt und der Umgebung auseinandersetzen. Dabei kann die Umgebung Teil des Kunstwerkes werden.

Umgebung (dän. , ‚umgebendes Land‘, ‚umgebende Welt‘) steht für:

• Umgebung (Mathematik), ein topologisches Konzept von Nachbarschaft
• Umgebung eines Lebewesens, die auf es einwirkt und seine Lebensumstände beeinflusst; siehe Umwelt

Een environment of omgevingssculptuur is de kunstzinnige vormgeving van een bepaalde ruimte zoals een kamer, theater, straat of plein waarbij verschillende materialen, bewegingen, klank, licht en andere communicatiemiddelen een rol spelen. Een installatie is een vorm van environment, een meestal tijdelijk opgebouwde constructie. Soms wordt er niet enkel met beeldende vormen gewerkt, maar ook met geurstoffen of geluid. Die laatste vorm noemt men sound art.

Environment (ang. otoczenie, środowisko) to jeden ze środków wypowiedzi jakimi posługuje się sztuka współczesna. Jest to sztucznie tworzona sytuacja przestrzenna przeznaczona dla osób pasywnie w niej uczestniczących. Może to być wnętrze, w którym ściany i sprzęty najeżone są ostrymi odłamkami szkła, albo pomalowana w pionowe pasy kabina z lustrzaną podłogą i sufitem - co na osobie znajdującej się wewnątrz robi wrażenie, że jest zawieszona w szybie ciągnącym się w nieskończoność. Istnieją również bardziej skomplikowane układy, działające na zasadzie wywołania szoku.
