excretion

Excretion is the process by which waste products of metabolism and other non-useful materials are eliminated from an organism. In vertebrates this is primarily carried out by the lungs, kidneys and skin. This is in contrast with secretion, where the substance may have specific tasks after leaving the cell. Excretion is an essential process in all forms of life. In mammals urine is carried out through the urethra and that is part of the excretory system.

Als Exkretion ( „ausscheiden“) wird die Abgabe von überflüssigen Stoffwechselprodukten aus dem Körper an die Umwelt bezeichnet. Der Vorgang wird oft auch einfach Ausscheidung genannt, doch werden darunter auch Sekretionsleistungen und alle andere Abgaben des Körpers verstanden. Exkretion umfasst die Abgabe gelöster Bestandteile, die Defäkation festerer Bestandteile und die Abgabe gasförmiger Bestandteile, die der Körper nicht mehr benötigt.

Excretie of uitscheiding is het proces waarbij een organisme afvalstoffen en overtollige stoffen uit het bloed of uit lichaamsvloeistof kwijtraakt. Een aantal processen in de stofwisseling produceert nutteloze tot schadelijke bijproducten die uitgescheiden moeten worden omdat anders het organisme ontregeld of vergiftigd raakt.

Wydalanie, ekskrecja – proces fizjologiczny polegający na usuwaniu zbędnych, a nawet szkodliwych, jak i będących w nadmiarze produktów przemiany materii oraz wody i elektrolitów. Z wydalaniem wody związana jest osmoregulacja. Wydalanie gazów oddechowych odbywa się w procesie respiracji. U większości protistów niestrawione resztki ulegają egzocytozie. Nieliczne z nich wykształciły wyspecjalizowane organelle (np. wakuole orzęsków). Rośliny usuwają metabolity przez aparaty szparkowe. Zwierzęta wytworzyły wyspecjalizowane komórki (komórka płomykowa, wędrujące albo magazynujące nefrocyty), narządy i układy wydalnicze o stopniu zaawansowania zależnym od typu (np. protonefrydium u płazińców, metanefrydium u pierścienic, cewki Malpighiego u stawonogów, nerki u kręgowców). Wrotki (Rotifera), żyjące w wodzie, wydalają azotany i fosforany dostępne dla glonów i makrofitów. Zwierzęta amonioteliczne wydalają amoniak (głównie wodne), urykoteliczne kwas moczowy (np. gady), ureoteliczne mocznik (np. człowiek).
