The Research School for Socio-Economic and Natural Sciences of the Environment (SENSE Research School) is a joint venture for integrated environmental and sustainability research and multidisciplinary PhD training in the Netherlands. The school was accredited by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) during 1997-2006, was not accredited during 2007, and in 2007 had applied for reaccreditation by a revamped KNAW successor. It was reacccredited in 2008 and 2014. In 2007 the program listed 80 Ph.D. courses.

A sense is a physiological capacity of organisms that provides data for perception. The senses and their operation, classification, and theory are overlapping topics studied by a variety of fields, most notably neuroscience, cognitive psychology (or cognitive science), and philosophy of perception. The nervous system has a specific sensory system or organ, dedicated to each sense.

Als Sinn wird die physiologische Wahrnehmung der Umwelt mit Sinnesorganen bezeichnet.

Een zintuig is een gespecialiseerd orgaansysteem dat een organisme in staat stelt tot perceptie van bepaalde voor het zintuig specifieke stimuli. Eenvoudiger gezegd is het een orgaan dat een mens of dier de mogelijkheid geeft een bepaald gedeelte van de werkelijkheid waar te nemen. De zintuigen zijn belangrijke studiegebieden van de neurowetenschappen en de cognitieve psychologie.

Du point de vue physiologique, les sens sont les organes de la perception. Les sens et leur fonctionnement, leur classification, et la théorie épistémologique qui soutient leur étude sont des sujets abordés par plusieurs disciplines, principalement les neurosciences, mais aussi la psychologie cognitive (ou science cognitive), et toutes les philosophies ayant trait à la perception. Il est généralement établi, depuis Aristote que l'homme possède cinq sens, ceci étant pour autant erroné.

Zmysły – zdolność odbierania bodźców zewnętrznych. Na każdy ze zmysłów składają się odpowiednie narządy zmysłów, w których najważniejszą rolę odgrywają receptory wykształcone w kierunku reagowania na konkretny rodzaj bodźców oraz odpowiednie funkcje mózgu.
