feedback

Feedback occurs when outputs of a system are routed back as inputs as part of a chain of cause-and-effect that forms a circuit or loop. The system can then be said to feed back into itself. The notion of cause-and-effect has to be handled carefully when applied to feedback systems:

"Simple causal reasoning about a feedback system is difficult because the first system influences the second and second system influences the first, leading to a circular argument. This makes reasoning based upon cause and effect tricky, and it is necessary to analyze the system as a whole."

Feedback bezeichnet:

Eine Rückkopplung, auch Rückkoppelung, Rückmeldung oder Feedback [] (engl.), ist ein Mechanismus in signalverstärkenden oder informationsverarbeitenden Systemen, bei dem ein Teil der Ausgangsgröße direkt oder in modifizierter Form auf den Eingang des Systems zurückgeführt wird.

Terugkoppeling of feedback is een proces waarbij de uitkomst (output) van een bewerking (proces) wordt teruggevoerd (feedback) aan de invoer.

La rétroaction est l’action en retour d’un effet sur sa propre cause : la séquence de causes et d'effets forme donc une boucle dite boucle de rétroaction. Au niveau supérieur, un système comportant une boucle de rétroaction agit ainsi sur lui-même. Du point de vue de la distinction entre commande et action, la sortie de la commande et donc l'action font partie des facteurs qui influent en retour sur la commande du système (la rétroaction diffère de l'hypothèse de la causalité inversée, dans laquelle l'effet précède sa cause.)
