Cat
The domestic cat (Felis catus or Felis silvestris catus) is a small, typically furry, domesticated, and carnivorous mammal. They are often called house cats when kept as indoor pets or simply cats when there is no need to distinguish them from other felids and felines. Cats are often valued by humans for companionship and for their ability to hunt vermin. There are more than 70 cat breeds; different associations proclaim different numbers according to their standards. The International Progressive Cat Breeders Alliance (IPCBA) recognizes 73 cat breeds while TICA (The International Cat Association) recognizes 58, CFA (The Cat Fanciers' Association) recognizes 44 and Federation International Feline (FIFE) recognizes 43.

Felis silvestris catus
El gato o gato doméstico (Felis silvestris catus) y coloquialmente llamado minino, micho, mizo o miz; es una subespecie de mamífero carnívoro de la familia Felidae. El gato está en convivencia cercana al ser humano desde hace unos 9500 años, periodo superior al estimado anteriormente, que oscilaba entre 3500 y 8000 años.

Kat (dier)
De kat of huiskat (Felis catus) is een van de oudste huisdieren van de mens. De gedomesticeerde kat behoort tot de familie der katachtigen (Felidae). De oude soortnaam was Felis domesticus, tegenwoordig is deze vervangen door Felis catus. In het Nederlands wordt ook het woord poes gebruikt, soms meer specifiek in het geval van een vrouwelijke kat. Eind 2009 waren in Nederland ongeveer 3,6 miljoen katten aanwezig.

Chat
Le chat domestique est la sous-espèce issue de la domestication du chat sauvage, mammifère carnivore de la famille des félidés. Il est l’un des principaux animaux de compagnie et compte aujourd’hui une cinquantaine de races différentes reconnues par les instances de certification. Dans de nombreux pays, le chat entre dans le cadre de la législation sur les carnivores domestiques à l’instar du chien et du furet.
